What is platinum?

Platinum - gray-white ductile metal, melting and boiling points are respectively 1769°C and 3800°C. This metal is even more rare than gold, and is worth more than gold. Platinum group consists of six metals - platinum, palladium, iridium, osmium, rhodium and ruthenium. These metals are of silver-white color, and they are usually found together. More common is platinum and palladium, less often are osmium, rhodium and ruthenium.

Platinum is a metal rarer and heavier than other precious metals, and because it is more pure, it is sometimes called "the most noble." Most of the products made of platinum to increase their strength also contain small amounts of iridium or ruthenium.

Since platinum is a very pure metal, it rarely causes allergic reactions. In addition, platinum is somewhat stronger than other precious metals.
Platinum is not marked by karats. In the U.S., platinum is marked by acronyms PT or «plat». In Europe, the platinum marking is 950 or RT950.
